Educational Bio
I have lived in Florida for all nineteen years of my life. Because of this, I have decided to stay close to home in order to move forward with my education. I have decided to attend Palm Beach State College for two reasons; one, because of its lower cost, and secondly because it is my mother’s alma mater. This is my third semester attending post-secondary education. So far, I have enjoyed being re-immersed into the learning process.
Though I do not come from a family with a large educational background; education takes a strong precedence in my life. My Mother attended Palm Beach Junior College back in 1980 and received her AA degree in 1983. That is where her education ended; until 2008, when she enrolled in the Medivance Institute thereafter earning a degree as a medical assistant. The person that has influenced me the most has to be my grandmother. Her involvement in university life started at a young age, in the year 1935, when she attended the University of Amsterdam. She worked her way through college, leaving the school with a Master’s degree in French.
Most people will not admit it; however, I believe that my high school education did a sufficient job to prepare me for college. Throughout high school, I pushed my learning capacity to its limits. I took honors and AP courses, that in turn, had me working through the night in order to make sure that the work was done; not only on time, but correctly. In addition to high school courses, I took a few reference courses at FAU to learn about all of the available resources, and where to search for what.
For work experience, I have done 'odd jobs' since the age of ten; but, my first official job was at the age of seventeen, when I started working for the Palm Beach Holistic Center. After that, I started as a file scanner, and within three months I became their system's administrator. However, later that year the CEO was forced to dissolve the company because of his diminishing health. I realized how much that I had enjoyed my role in that company; so as a result, I took the initiative to open my own company, and I now have the role as CEO of JW Web Potentials, Inc. While my company continues to grow, I am a cashier at Dollar General which helps me make ends meet. I have learned many things through working for Dollar General. It has exposed me to many diverse people, and has really refined my customer service skills. Most importantly, it has presented me with the extreme importance of furthering my education.
